In the November following the Battle of Gettysburg, Lincoln proclaimed
that the last Thursday of November should henceforth be set aside as a
day of thanksgiving. Many days of Thanksgiving had been proclaimed
by presidents before this one, but this proclamation is the one that finally
made Thanksgiving "the national holiday" that we celebrate annually.

- Gene Dirr professed his faith in Jesus Christ at the age of eleven. After a small-town Texas childhood, Dirr received his Bachelors degree in Business Administration from the University of Texas, Austin. A veteran of the United States Air Force and on active duty during the Cuban Missile Crisis, the author moved from an insurance examiner for the state of Texas to owning his own insurance agency.
